Staff at Oakleaf Garden Centre are working around the clock to salvage what they can after sudden, localized flash flooding submerged their primary glasshouses under two feet of water on Saturday night. The deluge destroyed thousands of pounds worth of delicate spring stock, fertilizers, and electrical equipment.

Owner Tom Gallagher, surveying the mud-caked aisles, expressed his frustration over local drainage infrastructure. "The culverts on the main road haven't been cleared by the council in over a year. When the storm hit, the water had nowhere to go but straight down our access road and into the shop," Gallagher said. While the centre remains closed for a massive cleanup operation, Gallagher faces an agonizing wait for insurance assessors to evaluate the structural damage to the glasshouses. The local community has rallied, with over 30 volunteers arriving on Sunday with mops and buckets to assist the overwhelmed staff.
